Almost any entrepreneur can trade on marketplaces — both owners of single-brand stores and sellers with thousands of items.
According to T-Data research, the growth rate of the number of sellers on marketplaces slowed down in 2024, but the figure still continues to increase, and many entrepreneurs choose this format.
You can make money on marketplaces, but this business, like others, has risks. Sellers depend on the platform’s terms, and customers often stay on the marketplace rather than go to the brand’s website. Large platforms recommend sellers to participate in promotions and provide discounts. You can refuse, but then the terms may change for the duration of the promotion: for example, the commission for the sale will increase.
The competition on marketplaces is high, and not all businesses can withstand it. Thus, among sellers who started working in 2022, only 42% continue to do business.
