What you need to know to properly prepare the surfaces for whitewashing

Preparatory work before whitewashing and ceiling

Before whitewashing the ceiling or walls, it is necessary to carefully study the surface and make sure that there are no cracks, spots or irregularities anywhere.

If you notice the spots, then you need to remove them. To do this, first wash them with water, and treat the wet area with a solution of copper sulfate.

If there is soot on the surface of the ceiling or walls, then you should wipe them with a solution of hydrochloric acid (3%).

To eliminate cracks on the surface, it is necessary to use putty. You can get it at home. To do this, mix gypsum and chalk, dilute with carpentry glue in a proportion of 1: 2: 2. Put putty to the surface with a spatula.

After the surface is fully prepared, it is necessary to apply a primer on it. To prepare a primer on your own, you should take slant lime – 3 kg, 200 g of laundry soap and 100 g of olifa. Soap must be cut into thin chips and placed in hot water – 3l, add olifa. Lime should be diluted separately in water (4l). After both solutions you need to mix and thus you got a primer. A primer is applied with a brush or roller. You need to wait until it dries and then turn white.
