First aid kit in the workplace: requirements and placement rules

The law prohibits keeping the usual painkillers and even regular iodine in it. When providing first aid, it is dangerous to use medications without a doctor’s prescription: the same iodine can cause a burn if it gets into a wound.

Therefore, only medical materials and instruments that are used for certain injuries and conditions are stored in the first aid kit.

Company managers or individual entrepreneurs organize first aid posts on the territory. As a rule, this is a place that is easy to approach and where at least one first aid kit is located. It is not necessary to allocate a separate office – you can, for example, hang a cabinet by the front door or opposite the security post.

Every employer must have at least one first aid kit. But the more risks at the enterprise, the more first aid kits should be stored.

Here is what you need to consider when calculating the number of first aid kits and choosing a place to store them:

  • number of employees;
  • results of a special assessment of working conditions, SOUT;
  • results of an assessment of professional risks, OPR;
  • results of investigations of injuries; frequency of performing hazardous work;
  • presence of hazardous production facilities, hazardous production facilities;
  • results of testing knowledge of occupational safety requirements;
  • opinion of the trade union, if any.

The number and locations of posts are fixed in the documents of the organization and individual entrepreneur, for example, in orders or regulations on the occupational safety management system.

Employees must know where the first aid kits are located. To do this, they are marked on evacuation plans, diagrams are posted on information boards, and they are discussed during occupational safety briefings.
