Pile foundations: advantages and varieties

Classification, purpose and advantages of pile foundations

Currently, it is customary to call piles large in length compared to their size in cross section, rods, which are made of metal or, much less often, of steel. They are installed in various ways in the thickness of the base entirely or in parts, as well as with the use of reinforcement and astringent.

Piles are vertical and inclined depending on orientation in space after installing them. Located under one grillage (beams, plates, prefabricated structures, monolith) or a construction of a certain number of piles is called a pile foundation. If piles are grouped under the construction, in some places nearby, then such groups are called pile bushes. Grillages play the role of binding piles. Distinguish tall (located above the surface of the earth) and low (below the surface of the earth) grillage. With their help, the load on the piles from the structure is transmitted more evenly and the piles receive additional rigidity for the perception of horizontal loads. Monolithic reinforced concrete strapping is used in the construction of brick and stone structures. In the foundations of panel, log and frame houses, the strapping is built from the timber.
